Did you miss us? Did you miss books? Here we are!
7. December 2020Did you miss us? And did you miss books? Do you want to come and borrow a book? Or do you want to return it? So now you can. Our operation mode is still very limited due to the current situation, but we still believe it will please you. How will we operate from Monday, December 7? What can and can’t you do? We wrote it all down for you. Are you ready?
Unfortunately, the library operation mode remains very limited these days. It is possible only to borrow and return books at the library, and opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. The library premises will be closed, only the library’s lending floor will be accessible (unfortunately you cannot use computers).
If the situation does not improve (and hopefully does not worsen), this operation mode will last until Friday, December 18, when the library closes (not because of the germs, but because of the Christmas holidays). In the new year, the library should open on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Borrowing books from the library
You can borrow books from Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM at the lending desk. Only the lending floor of the library will be accessible. You can find books on the shelves (but be careful, really only on the second floor, the reading room on the third floor is closed). We have called this mode “borrow, return and go home” for our needs. Please follow the following rules:
- please, do not enter without a face covering and wear it during your stay in the library,
- please, use compulsorily hand disinfectant when you are entering the library,
- the disinfection is also prepared for you in the library, and please use it,
- please, keep a safe distance and approach individually and separately to the desk,
- use primarily non-cash method (your credit or student card) when you are paying,
- please listen to the instructions of the librarians at the lending desk (thank you for that).
Books from the reading room on the third floor
The reading room on the third floor is still closed. But don’t despair. Please contact the librarians at the lending desk on the 2nd floor if you need books from the reading room. You can borrow these books (unless they are not from the Pedagogy Collection) till January 4, 2021, but without the possibility of renewal. You can borrow up to 5 books. Be aware that there is an overdue fine 50 CZK per item per day.
Additional instructions and information
- Please, keep an eye on the due date (you can find it in your reader’s account) and possibly extend it, if possible. We no longer automatically renew books.
- Currently, it is not possible to provide access to long-term loans of the university staff (i.e., it is not possible to arrange their loan).

Returning books
Please return books to the return machine, which is located on the right side of the ground floor of the U13 building (behind the cloakroom). The U13 building is open every day from 7 AM to 8 PM.
Computers and a printer
The printer and computers on the ground floor of the U13 building remain accessible. Everything works the same way you are used to from the library (you need your student card to use the printer). Use them only for the necessary time, and please do not stay in this building unnecessarily.
TBU University Press and Library Store
The TBU University Press is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 8 AM to 3 PM. In addition to the regular services, you can also use online services (e.g., order a cheap print).
